T-axis Encoder for Rotating Tool Holders
Some standard and some custom ETA Smart Arms require rotation at the tool holder for axial or radial alignment with your fastener location. Depending on your application, you may need feedback on that axis to error-proof the assembly. We refer to this rotation on the tool holder as the “T” axis.
Where it is needed and practical, ETA can modify existing standard or custom tool holder designs to incorporate a rotary encoder to match IOSA, AVSA, or AMSA encoders used on our X & Y feedback. With this T-axis encoder you would know position of the rotating tool holder to further verify fastener location.
It can also be used together with our Z-axis sensor without conflict. So you could have inputs of X,Y,Z & T or just X, Y & T, depending on your needs.
Some details about your application are required to incorporate the T-axis option into our tool holder. However, even with the extra engineering, you will find the cost is reasonable because all the concepts are already developed and much of it often involves standard inventory parts.

B/C Axis Position Feedback
Pitch & Yaw Sensor For Smart-Arm Tool Holders
ETA pitch & yaw sensors models BCAV and BCAM measure tilt in 2 directions off the horizontal plane. We are calling these 2 axis B and C. When driving fasteners on angles off-vertical with ETA Smart-Arms, this sensor can be incorporated into the tool holder to provide position feedback on the tool angle. Combined with X and Y position feedback, any errors in location or axial alignment can be eliminated. BC sensors are all solid-state, MEMs devices designed to measure 2 axis tilt (+/- 85° ) in one small rugged sensor, while reporting the data within 0.3 degrees of accuracy in analog outputs of 0.5 – 9.5 V DC (BCAV) or 4 – 20mA (BCAM). The BC sensor features a miniature metal housing and is epoxy encapsulated for vibration, water and dust resistance. It has an environmental rating up to IP 69K. Working temperature range is -40 to 85° C with a maximum temperature drift of +/- 1°. The BC sensor is precisely calibrated to remove non-linearity in the sensing range. It comes with a short cable and a 12mm 4-pin female connector to match ETA analog encoders and Z-axis sensors by using the unassigned pin in those connectors.
